NEC Advertising

    Sorry, i got one of those "german-language-off-days" so this post will be in English - hope its ok :)


    Anyway, first I'd like to say that this board is awesome. Dunno what I would've done without it - i'd probably already have bought some crappy TFT. And this is also kinda where the problem lies I guess.


    I've read about many different TFTs here from many different Manufacteurs. However, it seems a bit like this board is becoming a NEC board (I read that earlier it was a Samsung board as well?) which kinda ruins and confuses the preparingprocess for many users.


    I'm aware that the NEC1880SX and 1860NX are great TFTs with a couple of features not many monitors have - and I think its fine to suggest those monitors to people who are in doubt. I just think that it's been a bit too much lately. I've seen posts where people have listed 3-4 TFTs they're interested in (Not including one of the NECs) asking the experts here which one of those is the best etc. And STILL someone needs to write a "but why not a nec? its better and cheaper etc." post, confusing the person even more. I've even seen posts where the person in #1 post writes that he doesnt like the design of the NEC - and still someone mentions the NEC furtherdown.


    It's in those cases I think its too much NEC. No doubt NEC is living large of what the experts are suggesting on this board - and I fear that if this NEC advertising keeps going on in a bigger range and more often - the board will soon be 95% filled with NEC users - so what would be the point of coming here to ask which possibilities there is when finding a TFT? :)


    I'm not bashing or talking down to anyone nor the board itself. I'm just wondering if its really necessary to mention NEC in every single "Vorbereitung" query. And even tho the NECs have that colormanagement thingy + Pivot + etc. - its majority of ppl who can live without that and who doesnt need it. And yeah, Im aware that some are simply suggesting the NECs cause they ARE better and cheaper (1860NX anyway) - but I'm sure some of the LG, Philips, Samsung and Sony monitors are just as good for some ppl.


    Phew...long post, hehe. Hope i didnt offend anyone - i myself was through the NEC advertising period and it confused the hell outta me, forcing me to extend my TFT-purchase. :)

    When i discovered this board last year i was the only user with a NEC monitor. Samsung monitors were most recommended. There will be always such trends because when many users own the same model it's no coincidence that they recommend their monitor to others.
    But we aren't sponsored by NEC Corporation and the market is changing all the time. It's possible we recommend more Sony monitors in the future for instance or Samsung will be "back".
    Many users ask for the best value for money and currently NEC monitors fall in that category without a doubt.

    den Eindruck den rane hier hat, den hatte ich auch schon einmal, aber mittlerweile nicht mehr. Zudem scheint die Produktpalette im 19" Zoll-Bereich immer größer zu werden und hier wird nicht nur der NEC empfohlen.

    well yeah, and in the cases where users ask for best value for money - its fine recommending the 1860NX. I was merely referring to some threads where users suddenly gets a NEC-post thrown their way, confusing them even more - when they had actually already decided on one of 3-4 monitors :)

    i suspect NEC will follow the competitors in the 19" section, making monitors just as good with the same panels and then adding those other features that most dont have. So maybe it'll just continue that way, who knows :)

    I know what you mean, it's some kind of euphoria when people believe they own a fine piece of technology. One has to be careful in his own decision and i agree sometimes it is not so easy when everybody around recommends a specific model while you had something different in mind.
    But bringing a NEC into play when you see it is well tailored for the needs of that user is fair and objective as well.

    it's simply a fact that NEC (esp. 1860) offers best value for money.


    And this is intended by NEC. They use exactely the same panel as LG and Sony do and the most striking thing is: They sell their product with _additional_ features and _LG's_ panel for _less_ money than LG itself.


    guess what customers will buy :-/


    I have no clue how they can sell LG's panel cheaper than LG itself..maybe their only goal is to gain market shares. At any price :)


    And concerning the 19'' displays... I would never ever buy a NEC. just too expensive :) I'd rather take one of those low budget MVA/PVA TFTs. And I didn't see anyone recommending a 19'' NEC by now :)

    Well, maybe NEC just doesnt spend anywhere near as much time/money/ressources on the Design as LG and Sony does. Maybe thats got something to do with the lower price too, who knows. :)

    It is not the first time, that somebody gets the impression about a NEC adverstising page.
    90% of the peoble, who searches a new TFT screen, wants to have one "the best one" for "least money" and suitable for gaming.
    I think it will confuse more, when everybody suggests every time a different screen model. Beginning from this point, when NEC reduces the prices of the 1860, it is a fact that this one offers the best relation between performance and money.
    This is the only reason an I think the intention is also ok.

    did you try all the other IPS-panel monitors?


    The LG1810B for example....is in the same pricerange (at least here in Denmark) and got some very positive feedback from some ppl here on this board. Plus it looks a lot more attractive design-wise. Even has the same panel.

    I saw the main 1860NX competitors like L1810B and Sony X82, but thr topic is about the technical differences.
    In Germany the LG is in average 10% more expensive than the 1860NX. About the design: every user has different tastes. Obviously a 'besser' design is not existing. So the LG doesn't show any objectice advantages in comparison to the NEC.
