REBK stripes:
The panel shows a clearly visible peculiarity of its pixel mask structure. This stands out with very bright brown, blue or gray tones in particular. Some people perceive this formation of stripes to appear in a minimal, subtle way only, then again, to others it is more distinct. With viewer to panel distances larger than 50 cm these stripes should drop below the threshold of noticeability. If still in doubt (I bet you are:-] ), have the monitor shown to you at your local retailer and form your own opinion in this matter.Crystal effect:
The panel surface looks a little crystal-like or to be slightly glittering. This effect does not stand out too negatively in daily work however. Opinions differ on this matter as well. -

BTW, why does Tomshardware speak so badly about IPS panels in terms of gaming? Most people on forums I visit say that IPS panels are very good and much better than PVA for gaming and yet Tomshardware in their 2001FP review said it was too slow and that games were unplayable? I think they rated the 2001FP 2/5 for gaming and the 193P 4/5.Tomshardware, in my opinion, is not be taken too seriously. It's alright for catching up on some GPU benchmarks for example, but the accuracy of their investigation in reviews and articles (not only in terms of monitors) generally seems to be highly disputed among most hardware enthusiasts I met.

How do you like the design of the Iiyama E481S ? It comes in black, silver, white and has a 25ms IPS panel. Additionally, it's a lot cheaper!

[..] so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what's the popular opinion on 25ms IPS panels and gaming?
long story short: 25 ms IPS works like a charm!
Maybe you wanna reconsider if the the two models you picked would be the right choice given their relatively high price in the 19 inch area.
You could save a few extra bucks, go for a 20 inch model and at the same time abandon you last doubts about gaming capabilities since newer S-IPS panels in the 20 inch area all come with a 16 ms response time.Where are you from btw?

Yes, I wish they just started ditching the analog connector and went with a "digital only" solution. After all, an AD-converter is much more expensive than DVI.
After influential associations of the IT sector immediatley were up in arms against it, the plans on introducing this ridiculous import duty on displays featuring DVI that you mentioned have been abandoned (in Germany that is) as quickly as they were presented.
But a final EU-wide decision is still due. The UK for instance put the toll into practice as of 1st October last year which resulted in the commission advising all the other countries to follow suit. But nothing happened so far. A decision is expected this year. Right now there is a lot of uncertainty in the market because of this. -
It's available since December.
It would seem to be a nice option considering the low price, but it's out of the race for most people since it has no DVI. -
Given past experiences with claimed "16 ms" MVA/PVA and S-MVA (i.e. the HP L1955 ) one could assume that this is just once more a marketing trick.
Yet, of course, I would be happy if Sony was going to prove us wrong this time. -
As an alternative, you might wanna take a look at the L1910B wich features S-IPS too.

... and very often I will use the monitor for DVD playback....
In short: Watching DVDs on a TN-Panel (l90d+) would be a pain in the neck. For your overall type of use I'd decide in favor of an IPS panel (like the one of the E481).
Where do you go for price comparison of US-based online shops? pricewatch.com? -
yup.
Go 20 inch! Definetly.
I dont see why gaming on anything larger than 19 inch would be a "NONO".
The bigger your screen is, the easier you are going to forget that you are actually in some room, sitting in front of a computer, therefore the more you will get immersed into the game.
Just make sure your PC is fast enough so you can get enough frames per second while playing in the native resolution of 1600*1200.
But hey, since money is not really an object...!
Get the NEC LCD2080UX+ ! Neat device. -
Hi Figment,
you might want to consider these two:
Samsung 213T huge 21,3 inch 1600x1200 PVA under 900 Euros
LGL2323T even huger 23 inch 1280x768 wide screen under 1000 Eurosand:
The backlight bleeding on the Dell 2005FPW is supposed to be gone by now with the newer revisions according to extensive reports in the german section of our board. The 2005 FPW might just be your thing. Apart from teh appealing price, Dell has a pretty reliable Pickup service in case you are not satisfied with illumination uniformity, dead pixels etc.If you are somebody who isn't willing to upgrade his monitor/ home cinema every 2 years, I'd advise you to wait a little for prices of displays featuring the full HDTV resolution (1920x1200) to drop.
HDTV is really on the verge of flooding the market content (DVD) and hardware-wise (displays) this year.
For example the 23 inch Benq FP231W sporting the 1920 res is available in Germany for 1250 Euros.Take your time.

...
regretably none of the reviews on your site are in English and I do not speak German so I was unable to read any of them.
...
It seems from trying to read the German reviews and posts that this topic has been covered, but not in English.
...Hi there,
Dont worry. All of the reviews on this site are currently being translated into English by my humble self. The english version of Prad.de is expected to launch before the end of March.
I love UT 2004 myself. Go for the Iiyama! The 937s' TN-panel will most likely screw up the beautiful colors of the game. -
that's too bad.
I'm looking for upcoming monitors with the new AUO MVA panel myself.
Do you speak russian, btw? -
off-topic:
for everybody with vague plans on a quick vacation and on buying unbulky but expensive electronics. The dollar is on such a low level right now that it would still pay off to buy a ticket to NY, spend the night in a hotel, get the gizmo and fly back. This starts to make sense for electronics priced at 2000 bucks or above.
I'm not kidding. Think about it. 100 $ for 75 €.
You can catch a flight for 300 euros. -
Hi there,
just minor differences, - like you said, essentially the same.
A quick google search on "1910bk" or "1910 bk" didn't reveal much info.
But I can assure you the whole LG 1910 series incorporates IPS technology, which is what you wanted to make sure, I believe?Greetz

Indeed. You won't get a decrease in quality when using 1:1 resolution. The picture just gets smaller, but the sharpness of the native resolution remains. Only if you interpolated to full screen the quality would suffer.
