BenQ FP791 colors is official... [Englisch]

  • I've said the Acer AL732 (BenQ FP791)
    don't have 16M color palette...
and none has believed me.

    Go to
    select FP791 product,
    click the "Flash Demo".

    When animation start,
    select "Specificatin" and.....

    Colors: 16.7 million WITH DITHERING

I don't think the monitor really use hardware
dithering but a different technique based on
    interlacing.

    Ciao

  • Acer AL732 is BenQ FP791 ? they looks very
    different !?

  • Look different... but has the same panel.

AU Optronics is a Acer company.

Look at the "Monitor Applications" page.
All AUO panels with 16ms response time has 262K colors.

This is not a terrible thing, but explain the low
price of monitors with these panels.

  • Personally I can see the colors limitation
    looking the Paint palette.

But the AL732 (and I think the BenQ too)
has a beatiful OSD and very fast response time.
Is the best for video and games...
    not for graphic work.

  • Also if the same panel is used there is no guarantee, that there is the same visual quality able to see.
The OEMs fave also the possibility to influence respectively to increasing it (e.g. pixel response time) by optimizing the adressing method of the LCD panel.

  • Hello together,

My Viewsonic VP201m doesnt have full 16M colors as well (and it uses dithering, too). I believe there are a lot of panels with less than 16M colors. Since it's hard to see, most people won't notice it.

@Affe: I think while many panels don't have full 16M colors, most of them have a _lot_ more as 64k colors. So running Windows or games at 32 Bit isn't pointless at all. Color gradients will look much better in 24 or 32 bit mode, compared to 16 bit mode, with most TFT monitors.

    With best Regards
