Hallo Blackbacex,
Daytime:
245BW: brightness control 30, 100 nits, 36 watts
SA850: brightness control 9, 100 nits, 14 watts
This is a brightness level I'm comfortable with
during the daytime in my office. I have a fair
amount of indirect daylight via windows.
Night-time:
245BW: brightness control 0, 32 nits, 20 watts
SA850: brightness control 0, 70 nits, 12.8 watts
And here is the problem with the SA850.
Even with manual brightness control set to 0, it goes down to
only about 70 nits -- twice the min-luminance of the 245BW.
I find 70 nits to be too bright for night time use.
But the SA850 menus have an "ECO" mode, and if you enable the
Eco light sensor, sensitivity = low, brightness level = dimmer,
and cover the light sensor with a piece of dark tape,
then the monitor can get down to:
SA850: brightness control ECO, 32 nits, 11 watts
The reason that the tape is necessary is because the
brightness will change at an annoying rate when light
changes near the monitor due to your movements.
Maybe Samsung should include a piece of tape
in the box when they ship the monitor:-)
