    UH!
Sorry, I've missed this thread... :)

Ok, Samsung says 971P have a S-PVA panel (eigth domain pixel structure)...
But the only Samsung 19'' VA panel under production is the LTM190E4.
All other 19'' panels are with TN technology.

The funny thing is that "all" the LTM190E4 (retouched) specs are "identical" to SyncMaster 971P specs.
So, Samsung have a 19'' S-PVA panel with the same LTM190E4 specs, surely due to poor marketing... ;)
    ...and where is this panel??
    Where is the LTM190E4-V2/LTM190E5/...(?) datasheet?
    ?(

    About the response time...
Remember this is a VA+overdrive and not a TN.
So, your old LCD can perform something better in response time area and worse in all other things.

The Samsung LTM190E4 is a "simple" PVA panel and use spatial dithering.

I've the 970P and I se it with my eyes. ;)
    No problems for office/general usage.
They are very good monitors anyway.

    Don't worry about dithering.
None of these LCDs are best suited for graphic apps.
Eizo and Samsung use the PVA panel.
Philips and Belinea the MVA one from AU Optronics.

The Philips have good price/performance ratio and user opinions.

The Belinea 1980S1 seems to don't have a very good factory color calibration.
Here you can compare some monitors aspects:

How can you find user opinions before product availability? ?(

There is a positive CNET review:

    It's very probably a VA+overdrive for all-around moderate use.
Not the best for graphic apps...
    Not the best for games...

    Like Eizo S1931, Samsung 971P, Philips 190P7, Belinea 1980S1, ...

Sorry marklin, I don't have direct experience of these monitors.
I can only says that Belinea 101920 is a best seller, but at present Philips 190P7 seems to be a better choice.

If you can increase your budget... you can consider also Eizo S1931.
I have had some Eizo in the past and they was all beautiful products.

I'm sceptic too about release dates.
I hope we can see it before year end.

This is a different product than the XC20 introduced at last CeBit.
The XC20 had PVA panel with 4ms response time.

    P.S.
    SyncMaster XL20 review under way...

Belinea 101920 is a well tested monitor.
Philips 190P7 seems to have lower dead-pixel percentage (for now).
    Personally I don't know about a new 19'' Belinea VA+overdrive.
LCD panel manufacturers are concentrating on widescreen formats.

Do you mean your monitor has both backlight uniformity problem and flickering problem?
How do you have discovered the flickering?

    P.S.
LCD panels with temporal dithering (FRC) can show some flickering... but this usually occurs with very specific images and color combinations.
I think someone must have some sensibility problems to see flickering everywhere (and even CCFL lamps have a working frequency).

I've no doubt this is for market reasons...
But, in my modest opinion, Sony has failed to gain a strong and well defined position in the LCD monitor world.
I know there is a fierce Taiwan/Korea competition... but it's the same for Eizo and Nec.
