I like LCD over CRT for my text intensive work.
and if I buy a CRT after I have tried so many LCD... I'm more stupid than what seems...
Thanks
Sorry frawer and others...
I don't want to transform a topic from german to english.
Yes, I think CG18 can be much expensive...
I finally think to buy a L685 that now I find for 1189 euro
...but I'm little tempted from L767 for 1199 euro.
I can say you surely to avoid Samsung 191T.
I think (personally) L685EX is better than 1880SX.
The only doubt is the 1980SX.
I never seen a professional MVA model.
Also LaCie has a graphic oriented LCD but 20''
(IPS looking the specs).
Ciao
CRT make radiations... heat... and the look are not fine like LCD
Color calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CG18?
True 10-bit color resolution is a different thing.
Surely internal 10-bit help the monitor to make regulations with better precision.
I don't know if this is enough to replace a better panel
Samsung = preiswerter
NEC = professionelles OSD und Design
I don't need the monitor for games, but I like it is good with movies.
I have tried six monitors and IPS is not only good for gaming.
In my opinion it has deeper black and better color accuracy.
It sound strange a LCD can be sharper than another...
but when I look at the Eizo L565 (IPS) and then to Acer AL922 (MVA) this seems out of focus and washed!
MVA has also an optical asymmetry and the image in pivot mode is not good as in normal orientation
(no brand say this).
But I'm sure Eizo and Nec electronics push the panels to maximum and 1980SX and L767 are very good monitors.
This is why I'm undecided...
newboardmember I can't try 4 more monitors!
Cause a mistake I don't have been able to return the two last monitors and I have lost money
So this is my final choice...
18'' or 19'' size is the same for me.
I don't understand why all want 19 inch... because I find it as much comfortable of the 18.
I want the best image quality with text and pictures.
Weideblitz I don't know if 10 bit color management can make the difference.
The computer send only 8 bit informations to monitor.
Eizo for the color calibrated ColorEdge series use only IPS panels and this can say something.
Why you not consider the 1880SX?
Nec say will make his own 19'' IPS panel to replace the Samsung into 1980SX...
and this sound like "IPS is better".
But 1 more inch is really a revolution???
I find that the real difference is from 17'' and 18''...
Yes... 1980SX on paper can be better than L767.
But I knows by experience that Eizo make total quality monitors.
I think Nec use Samsung panel because they are partners in mobile phones LCD.
I am very curious to know from where has gone out the 700:1 contrast of 1980SX... my fear is that it has a crazy brightness.
However you can be right...
My problem is to choose from IPS (L685) and MVA/PVA (L767 or 1980SX)
mmmh.... I think the IPS panel of the L685 is the best.
1 - the new top entry L695 has the same.
2 - the graphic oriented ColorEdge CG18 idem.
So MVA with internal 10-bit color precision is not enough to replace a IPS panel.
At present there are not 19 inch IPS panels... and this explain the MVA choice to cover the 19'' range.
...and if the 767 is better the name must be 785.
I have decided to order the Eizo L685...
but now is available the L767 for a few more Euro.
767 has nice new features like fine-contrast (text, picture, movie, etc.) and 10-bit internal color management... but I found IPS panels better in color accuracy.
What do you think is the best???
Help me!
Can be very few people has BGR + RGB LCD multi-monitor combination...
but is the same for LCD + CRT.
Micro$oft is too busy to make dancing dogs and cats (like in WinXP search)...
It's not easy to explain the "crystalline effect".
Like Weideblitz say is a optical thing.
With Eizo L565 this effect is much smaller, so not all IPS panels has.
BGR sub-pixel orientation is not a problem because don't have ClearType support, but because is rare.
So, if you buy a X82 (BGR) as primary display and other LCD (RGB) as secondary...
you can configure ClearType only for the primary or the secondary, not for both.
I think panel technology is important in respose time.
A MVA/PVA panel speed is very dependent from colors.
You have white<>black very fast and green<>brown very slow.
Unfortunately paper response time is nothing.
Acer AL922 and Samsung 172T are faster than Samsung 191T but all have 25ms on paper (!)
"strong rivals" sounds like being at the same level, but personally I found the Eizo better than Sony and any other.
The L565 worth any Euro... and I hope the L685 too.
Ciao
About Sony X82 I can say...
Construction is solid, but the frame is very wide.
So avoid black color, because it create too contrast
from the screen and the environment.
His IPS panel (someone say LG/Philips) has a strange "crystalline effect" I don't like so much... but is a subjective thing.
Sub-pixel order is BGR instead of the standard RGB.
Using ClearType fonts in multi-monitor configuration ca be a problem, because it can't be configured differently for any display.
Obviously no problem if you use all X82.
I find IPS panel ghosting less annoying and less variable from colors.
With Unreal it seems better than 25ms MVA/PVA panels.
Color accuracy is great, and you can see dark tones of colors than other LCD cut entirely.
Yes, no problems for office-applications...
and with digital connection the OSD allows
more controls than others... but not good as Eizo.
I think Eizo L665 or Nec 1880sx can be strong rivals.
Ciao
P.S.
If someone need help,
I can say interesting info. about the
monitors I have tried.
This is my only consolation...
I forgot... a Dell 1900FP, but I haven't tried it.
Sure... I buy all monitors to same store
and then returned.
So they returned something on my head.
It has happened me all this because
I am trusted of the reviews.
Strange that the best monitors
have very few or no reviews.
I'have tried:
Philips 150S3F
Samsung 191T
Sony X82
Acer AL922
Samsung 172T
Eizo L565
I don't drink beer
Eizo is the winner.
with the best OSD and color accuracy.
When I sell the Acer I think to buy a L685
and use it for long time...
