NTSC 2.0: 90 % coverage

The Eizo SX3031W covers the sRGB colour space very well. When the AdobeRGB gamut is compared with it, the monitor misses out just narrowly on the advertised coverage value of 97 %, which may be due to the measuring tolerances.

Larger deviations from the advertised values arise when the monitor is compared with the NTSC colour space. Here, the monitor should be capable of covering this standard colour space fully, but in fact, the Eizo 30-inch model misses out on this target by 10%. Overall, the results are acceptable.

Explanation of deltaE deviation

Deviation in colour values is measured in deltaE 94 (dE). Various grey levels and the primary (RGB) and secondary (CMY) basic colours were measured. A deltaE value of 1 represents the smallest difference in colour that can be perceived by the human eye. Most people recognise a difference in colour from a value of 3. However, our eyes are more sensitive to green tones so that smaller differences can be perceived for these. The average deviation should be less than 3 dE and the maximum should be under 10 dE, but under 6 dE us better. Up to 10 dE, two colours are still sufficiently similar.

Comparison of factory settings with sRGB standard

Factory setting sRGB Standard Measured

140 224
0,00 0,30
Native 744
sRGB (~2,2) 2,05

The factory settings are not optimised for sRGB display. At 5573K, the white value is considerably warmer than the target value. The deviations in colour are sometimes more than 10 deltaE, whilst the grey values are quite accurate. The gamma value of 2.06 is a good bit off the target (2,2).

Comparison of sRGB mode with sRGB standard

sRGB (~2,2) 2,05

When sRGB mode is activated, the high average deviation of 6,5 deltaE should seem lower. With a value of 3,4 deltaE, this is the case and this is a very good value for an LCD monitor with an extended colour space. However, the colour temperature is still considerably too warm at 5514K and the gamma value remains unchanged.
