REVIEW: Eizo S2431WH-GY Part 17Otherwise, compression artefacts, where they arise, are very visible because of the high level of detail reproduced. Image noise contained in the film is also visible, but both effects are not worsened by the S2431W and can therefore be attributed to the quality of the film material. The other problems described earlier in the static streaking test with the overdrive adjustment are not visible in films or games.
James Bond 007 - Casino Royale (Aspect Ratio 2.35:1) The Eizo S2431W’s very good image quality also comes to the fore for film and video playback. The S2431W, designed for use as an office monitor, naturally has the characteristics of a multimedia screen, but HDCP support on the DVI input is not sufficient for the latter. The monitor is especially unsuitable for the external playback of image material. This sector is covered by the more expensive HD2441W.
It has always cost a little more to have a certain taste. Eizo has a reputation for manufacturing monitors with excellent image quality, but not exactly bargain prices. A 24-inch office monitor, as Eizo has dubbed the S2431W, for €890.00, is not exactly a gift. However, Eizo still upholds its reputation for excellent image quality. With the S2431W, Eizo offers a good all-round monitor, which is especially convincing in terms of image quality and interpolation. Hobby gamers and semi-professional graphics artists can definitely go for this monitor. Only the base left a less good impression. The missing suspension points in landscape and portrait modes as well as a plastic covering that does not adhere properly to the tip of the base spoil the otherwise flawless finish. The none-too-intuitive OSD, which we have already criticised in other Eizo models, is compensated for by the excellent Screen Manager software, which also brings additional practical features such as hotkeys or application-specific settings. All users who are not planning any external playback of image content and do not wish to use the S2431W for professional image processing can buy this monitor without further thought. For those interested in multimedia, the Eizo HD2441W may be a suitable alternative. This model is also in the PRAD test laboratory at present. For graphics users, the Eizo CG241W with its 12-BIT Look Up Table (LUT) should be of interest. Despite the faults in its base, the S2431W achieves a rating of very good, especially for its excellent image quality. Overall rating: VERY GOOD
