REVIEW: NEC SpectraView Reference 21
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad
With the 21 inch NEC SpectraView Reference 21 (model name: LCD2180WG LED), we reviewed an LCD monitor that was conceived for professional use in the field of graphics. What sets the SpectraView Reference 21 primarily apart is its LED backlight, by which it is supposed to be capable of reproducing a remarkably large color space and delivering very good color accuracy.
For this reason, the main focus of this review is placed on graphics. We want to determine whether this LCD monitor can live up to the claim of being a "reference" monitor for graphics professionals. To round off the picture, we also reviewed this monitor with respect to its suitability for office, games and movie playback.
All results issued in this review have been established using the digital input. All tests have been conducted using two Point of View GeForce 7800GTX 512MB (SLI).
The scope of supply of the NEC SpectraView Reference 21 contains the following: One manual with installation instructions, one DIN A4 sheet with information regarding the screen manager NaViSet, one sheet with support contact addresses and phone numbers, one measurement report sheet from the manufacturer, one CD, one anti-glare shield, one cable duct, one DVI-D cable (digital) and two power cables.
