Introduction

Korean electronics giant Samsung has been established on the TV and monitor markets for years. With its new T series, Samsung wishes to combine its experience in both sectors.

The new T series from Samsung offers two variants, each with a different screen size. Overall, four different sizes are available: 20, 22, 24 and 26 inches. All panel sizes come as pure PC monitors with the descriptions T200, T220, T240 and T260. The models with the additional TV function have the suffix HD. Thus, these model names: T200HD, T220HD, T240HD and T260HD.

From the extensive range of models, we have decided on the Samsung SyncMaster T220HD for a thorough and detailed test.

For our test, we used an ASUS GeForce 8600 GTS, the DTP94 colorimeter from Quato and the related iColor Display software in Version 3.0.4. Where other tools were used in the test, they are mentioned in this review.

Scope of supply

The packaging of the monitor has a practical handle on the top for carrying it. This makes it easier to transport the model to your car if you have bought it directly from a retailer. At 7.8 kilograms including packaging, it is certainly possible to transport the model on foot.

As well as the features displayed above (VGA cable, DVI-D cable, power cable, Quick Installation Guide, driver CD, cable clip, remote control, batteries, cleaning cloth) the model we procured came with its base in parts in the packaging, which reduces the necessary packaging materials greatly. In order to ensure that you can start using your monitor quickly and easily, a Quick Install Guide is included. Although this is only available in English and French, the small number or steps are easy to follow thanks to the pictures.

The CD contains the monitor profile (*.icc), Natural Color calibration software and a multilingual manual in HDML format as well as a monitor driver. As a special feature, we will mention here that the settings in the OSD are demonstrated using Flash animations. This means that you find your feet faster in using the menu.
