REVIEW: LG Flatron IPS235V
According to the manufacturer’s information, the LG IPS235V is ideal for photos, films and also games. This is possible thanks to an IPS panel with a wide viewing angle, precise colour reproduction thanks to certified factory calibration and 6-axis colour control and a response time of five milliseconds. At the same time, the 23-inch LED monitor with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels is already retailing at 175.00 Euro. Therefore, we are looking forward to finding out whether the manufacturer’s promises will be kept and in which sectors concessions must be made.
The results published in this test were obtained via the digital DVI output of an AMD Radeon HD 6970 from Asus. For the colorimetric measurements, the iColor software and the Colorimetre HCFR software were used in connection with a spectral photometer (EyeOne Pro). The minimum black value was measured using the Colorimeter DTP94. The external playback of video material was carried out using the Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player, which was connected using a HDMI cable.
The monitor is packed securely in its box using two thick sections of Styrofoam, separating it from its accessories. The stand pillar is located in the same compartment as the accessories and must be attached before the monitor can be used.
Accessories provided and assurance report on rendition quality.
The scope of supply includes a DVI cable, a VGA cable, a power cable, a Getting Started Guide, a guarantee card and CD. The CD contains a detailed manual, software for the "Dual Package", the monitor driver and an ICC profile. In addition, an assurance report on the rendition quality is provided, in which the serial number of our model has been entered and the promised image quality is confirmed.
The pillar of the stand can be connected to the monitor without tools, since the screw can be tightened by hand. Loosening the screw by hand is also no problem, as a test shows.
The stand is made of a black, glossy, highly reflective material such as that used often in monitors at the moment. The square stand cannot be turned, adjusted in height or used in pivot mode. The only thing that can be changed is the tilting angle.

The front part of the frame on the LG IPS235V looks like brushed aluminium and is very elegant looking, but is in fact only made of plastic. The remainder of the frame, like the stand, is made of black piano lacquer look material. The relatively slim inner frame has also been lacquered in the same way, which gives rise to slight reflections when the model is in use. However, these are not irritating because of the slenderness of the frame. The surface of the screen itself is matte and non-reflective.
Since the height of the IPS235V cannot be adjusted, the lower edge of the frame is always around nine centimetres above the surface of the desk.

The back of the monitor is made of a matte, non-reflective material. The manufacturer logo is located in the upper area and the product information for the model can be seen in the bottom left section. The standard VESA 100 screw holes at the back in the centre allow the user to attach a different stand or wall bracket.

Only the tilting angle can be adjusted on this model without levels, within a range of 5 degrees forwards and 15 degrees backwards. During adjustment, the entire monitor creaked, which gave us the impression that the quality was not very high.

Our test reveals that the manufacturing quality is acceptable, but the material used seems rather cheap. Many users may be able to accept the limited adjustment options because of the low price, but its very light stand means that the monitor began to vibrate slightly even after small movements on the desk, which makes a negative impression. An external mount can be attached using the VESA screw holes provided.
Our model could only be heard when one listened directly at the back of the LG IPS235V. When we sat at a normal sitting distance, the monitor could be deemed soundless at any luminance. Since this aspect is subject to a certain degree of variation within a series, this statement may not necessarily apply to all models in this series.
