REVIEW: Samsung P2770HD
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad
The name "Hybrid LCDs" is used to denote monitors where the line between desk monitor and television is blurred. Large screen diagonals, an integrated TV tuner and a large number of video inputs are typical of such models. The Samsung P2770HD fulfils all these conditions and can therefore be put into the category of hybrid LCDs.
In addition, the P2770Hd should also convince with its Full-HD resolution, a low response time of 5 milliseconds and a high dynamic contrast of 50.000:1. The will clarify whether the Samsung 2770HD can keep up with its bigger brothers and wither it is also suitable for desktop use.
All results published in the test were obtained on the digital input of a type X1950Pro ATI graphics card in the Powercolor on-board layout. For the measurements for the calibration, we used the iColor software in conjunction with the DTP94 colorimeter from Quato as well as the "Colorimetre HCFR". We used the BDP-S350E blu-ray player and the Sony Playstation 3 to test the video functions.
In relation to its large screen diagonals, the Samsung P2770HD comes in a compact and extremely slim box. As normal, the monitor and base are included separately, but these are protected from scratching each other during transport by a Styrofoam layer and adhesive sheets.
27 inch and Full-HD but no digital video cable: the scope of supply is disappointing.
The scope of supply includes a D-Sub VGA cable for the analogue connection, an external device cable, a 3,5 mm jack connector, a micro fibre cloth, the getting started guide and a detailed manual on CD. Unfortunately, Samsung has not included digital cable, whether DVI or HDMI. In addition, let us say that at larger diagonals and resolutions, the display quality for analogue signals is generally much poorer. With a well-shielded cable and high-quality transformers, however, it is possible to combat this. And although the display of analogue signals on the P2770HD was above average, delivering a potential television without a digital video cable is not very customer-friendly, even if the costs have to be kept under control.
