REVIEW: Asus PA246Q
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad
PA246Q is the name of the new and currently the only monitor in Asus‘ new Pro-Art range. Designed for office use, the monitors focus primarily on high image quality and good ergonomics in particular. In terms of image quality, Asus trusts in the strength of a P-IPS panel with an extended colour space and 12-Bit LUT for its PA246Q. The24-inch panel in 16:10 aspect ratio offers a correspondingly large workspace. Asus also promises that the PA246Q is very colour neutral even in its factory settings, with DeltaE deviations of less than 5.
In order to leave nothing to chance, the Asus PA246Q also offers 6-axis colour control in addition. The ergonomic base allows for perfect adjustment for any user. A large number of ports also lends the Asus PA246Q great flexibility in terms of connections. At least according to its data sheet, the Asus PA246Q leaves nothing to be desired. In the course of the testing process, the results were almost identical to those for the DELL U2410, especially with regard to the image quality, which suggests that Asus has only labelled the PA246Q. Our detailed test procedure will provide clarity.
We connected and tested the Asus PA246Q via the digital DVI output of a Gainward GTX 560 and connected it with the graphics card via the DVI input using a DVI cable. The colorimetric measurements were carried out using a spectral photometer (EyeOne Pro) together with the iColor software from Quato and the Colorimetre HCFR. A colorimeter (X-Rite DTP94) was used to measure the minimum black level. The Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray player was used as an external player device, connected via HDMI cable.
The packing of the Asus PA246Q seems very voluminous for a 24-inch monitor, with outer dimensions of 67 x 45 x 29 centimetres (W x H x D). However, a carrying strap located on top of the box in the centre makes transport very convenient nonetheless. Two Styrofoam shells fix the Asus PA246Q reliably in its box and also separate the monitor from its accessories. A foam bag provides additional protection for the Asus PA246Q. The PA246Q is delivered in pivot position, already mounted on the base, and is thus ready for use once the screen is turned.
The range of accessories included with the Asus PA246Q is almost complete, since all required extras are provided apart from a HDMI cable. As well as the connector cables, the scope of supply includes a driver CD, getting started guide, guarantee booklet, Velcro cable binder and a calibration report.
