REVIEW: Samsung 2233RZ Part 9Although the Samsung is equipped with a TN panel and does not have an extended colour space, it still makes an acceptable impression in the UGRA- test. However, it does not receive certification because of its grey hue coverage. The 22-inch model achieves 88,5 percent, but 95 percent is required, which is generally only achieved by monitors with 10- or 12-Bit Look-up tables.
The complete UGRA report can also be downloaded as a PDF file. In terms of image display, the SyncMaster 2233RZ delivers good results - especially for displaying the sRGB colour space: here, the 22-inch model can certainly convince with very good values. Its lack of an extended colour space makes the monitor unsuitable for graphics workers. However, this is rather an advantage for standard users. The monitor is not a candidate for professional graphics work anyway because of its TN typical viewing angles.
Advertisement The calibration can be carried out precisely and without permanent fluctuation in the values. For everyday use, we recommend the sRGB calibration values with an increased brightness setting. Of course, the SyncMaster 2233RZ has primarily been designed as a gamer monitor. This is visible from the NVIDIA certificate for 3D gaming using 120 Hz technology alone. Equipped with a fast-responding TN panel , the 22-inch model should achieve a response time of 3 ms (grey-to-grey). There is no activatable/deactivatable overdrive. Corona effects often arise from poorly adjusted overdrive. These express themselves in the form of colourful lines at sharp, richly contrasting edges. However, nothing of the sort can be seen on the Samsung model.
Overdrive test image with three grey gradients, white, red and blue. In artificial tests, the SyncMaster 2233RZ gives an outstanding performance. No streaking can be seen and there is only a slight blurring of the image for fast movements. Scrolling texts can also be read with ease even at higher speeds.
Pictures from the game "Crysis Warhead" (1.680 x 1.050). In games, the 22-inch monitor can really show what it can do: the fast-responding TN panel provides razor-sharp pictures. Regardless of whether fast, jerky movements are being displayed in ego-shooting games or whether you are scrolling through a map for a strategy game, minimal blurring is only visible when you look closely and is not noticeable at all in the course of the game.
Scene from the PS3 shooting game "Resistance 2" (1080p). The suitability of a monitor for gaming is not only dependent on its response time and streaking formation, but is also largely reliant on the input lag. The SyncMaster does not always function in a lag-free manner: the monitor fluctuates between no lag and a lag of one frame (16 ms) in general. There are also peaks of two frames (32 ms), but these arise very seldom. From our measurements, we obtained an average input lag of 10 ms. Although this is not ideal, it is still an outstanding result.
Input lag-free image. With regard to its responsiveness, the SyncMaster 2233RZ is a player in the premier league of gaming monitors. With its minimal motion blurring and the razor-sharp results for moving image content, the Samsung model can keep up with top models such as the LG L227WT or the Acer G24.
