REVIEW: LG Flatron W2452V Part 8
If the monitor is receiving more than one video signal, this option allows both sources to be displayed at the same time. In addition, the position of the PiP window can be determined (top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left). FUN menu One special feature on the LG W2452V is the FUN button. When it is pressed, a menu opens with special functions which can be allocated to categories from "chatter" to "important".
The EZ-Zooming function is already known to us from earlier LG models. This feature allows the resolution to be switched to the next lowest. Thus, if you use the native WUXGA resolution 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, the resolution is changed to 1,680 x 1,050 pixels at the touch of a button. However, the EZ-Zooming function only works when the forte-Manager software is installed.
The second menu option 4:3 WIDESCREEN is used to select the interpolation behaviour. If a resolution that is lower than the native is used, this can be stretched to the entire screen surface, displayed in original format in justified, pixel-by-pixel format or shown in justified format. This feature is especially useful for gamers. If a graphics card is too weak to display the game in FullHD, the user simply reduces the resolution to a lower one without the image being distorted or interpolated. The PHOTO EFFECT function is more of a gimmick than anything else. A range of image modes are available: Normal, Gaussian blur, Sepia and Monochrome. Here, the image is simply filtered so that certain colours are no longer displayed. Thus, the image appears in grey tones or in the brown tinged "nostalgic look". The images always loses some quality here.
The last function of the FUN button is the SOUND function. Here, the user can select from two audio themes for the buttons or can simply deactivate the sound. The forte-Manager software included in the CD makes it possible to configure all OSD functions using the mouse. It is also possible to create and save up to ten user profiles. Additional adjustment options such as colour saturation, a volume control for the headphone output or a deactivatable overdrive are not included.
Overall, the OSD on the LG W2452V is convincing, not just in terms of design, but also through its simply organised structure. Every setting can be reached with a small number of clicks and can be configured precisely (one button click per step). The forte-Manager software is practical, since it can be used with the mouse and offers the option to save various user profiles. The OSD has inherited the negative aspect of its predecessor that selection of menu options is carried out either using the arrow buttons (main menu) or with the AUTO button (sub-menus), which takes some getting used to. However, improvements have already been made with the directly accessible brightness setting and PiP function.
