REVIEW: Asus VK246H![]()
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad Asus is also following the trend that many manufacturers have been following for about a year: manufacturing LCD monitors in 16:9 widescreen format at native Full-HD resolution. In light of this, the VK246H seems to be destined for multimedia applications. In addition, as well as the VGA and DVI input, there is also a HDMI input for connecting the model with modern devices such as a Next-Gen console. The package is rounded off with a grey-to-grey response time of just 2 ms, an integrated sound solution and a 1,3 megapixel webcam.
Asus itself describes the product as "Personal Entertainment on Desk". This review should clarify to what extent the VK246H justifies this title. All results published in this test were obtained via the digital input of a Powercolor X1950Pro. The measurements for the calibration were made using the iColor software in connection with the colorimeter DTP94 from Quato. The Blu-ray player BDP-S350E and the Sony Playstation 3 were used to tested the vide functions and suitability of the monitor for gaming. The Asus VK246H arrives in a slim box which fits like a glove. In order to save space, the monitor and base come separately, but mounting is a simple matter. At first glance, we were pleased with the scope of supply: As well as the digital DVI and analogue VGA cable, an external device cable is included for providing power to the internal power unit, a 3.5 mm audio cable and a USB connection for the webcam. Also included are a getting started guide, guarantee information and a CD containing the "Life Frame" webcam software.
Extensive scope of supply for the Asus VK246H, but without a manual. Unfortunately, we discovered that no detailed manual was included – neither in digital form on CD nor in hard copy. With astonishment, we realised that the German Asus website did not list the VK246H and that we were also unable to download a German user guide here. We still found an English guide on the international Asus site which extended the getting started guide in printed format by 2 pages, but cannot be considered a replacement for a complete manual.
