REVIEW: Samsung 2333HD
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad
SyncMaster 2333HD is the model description of the new multimedia monitor from Samsung. Both in PC mode and as a TV model in particular, the 2333HD should enthuse the user. Data such as FullHD resolution, 16:9 widescreen format, integrated DVB-T and analogue tuner, integrated speakers, a contrast of 10.000:1 and numerous inputs such as HDMI, Component (YUV) and Scart, to name but a few, make a clear statement. A fast TN panel with a response time of 5 ms grey-to-grey and 16,7 million reproducible colours is integrated into the Samsung 2333HD.
A maximum brightness of 300 cd/m² should allow the user to work in a wide variety of lighting conditions. HDCP support for the playback of copy-protected content has now become standard, and this is also the case for the 2333HD. The manufacturer's indications therefore sound very promising. We would like to find out how the Samsung 2333HD performs in the respective areas of application and have looked at it more closely.
The Samsung 2333HD was connected and tested via the digital DVI output of a Sapphire Radeon HD 4870. Calibration was carried out using the iColor software from Quato and an i1 colorimeter from X-rite. The Sony BDP-S 350 Blu-ray Player was used as an external player source for blu-ray media, connected via a HDI cable.
Samsung delivers the 2333HD in a very compact box, which has a comfortable handle for carrying. The most important technical data are printed on the box and are clearly visible. The base plate and monitor can be found in a fitted Styrofoam case and are therefore protected from slipping. The connecting piece between the monitor and the base and the other accessories are also well packed. Since Samsung focuses on the trendy piano lacquer surface for the 2333HD, the plate, connecting piece and monitor are also covered with protective sheets in order to protect them from scratches.

In relation to the connectors present on the Samsung 2333HD, the scope of supply for connector cables seems rather meagre. Only a D-Sub VGA cable can be found amongst the accessories. However, in return, Samsung provides a good quality remote control. Furthermore, there are an audio and a power cable, 2 AAA batteries for the remote control, a cable holder and a getting started guide, a guarantee card, a product booklet and a CD containing the monitor driver, a detailed user manual and the Natural Color software.
