REVIEW: Samsung 2494HM![]()
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad The Samsung 2494HM is the consequent further development of the 2493HM, which we have already tested here at PRAD. Our new test should show whether Samsung has been able to make progress for its customers in the course of model care. In terms of design technology, the 24-inch Full-HD screen gleams at the front in piano lacquer design with a chrome element at the lower edge. To the trained eye, however, this model is not simply a copy of the previous model, but demonstrates a range of pleasant improvements in detail as well as a format change from 16:10 to the even wider aspect ratio of 16:9. As well as the three connector types D-Sub HD15, DVI-D and HDMI, a 3,5 mm jack connector is also offered, through which the integrated 3 Watt stereo speakers can be used for both the playback of HD content and for other opportunities.
At first sight, the monitor is presented as an extremely optically pleasing multimedia model which is therefore suitable for your living room. Its aspect ratio, the fast response time of 5 ms and Full-HD resolution mean that the monitor seems to be ideal for films and games. Whether this first impression can also be implemented and to what extent the strengths and weaknesses of the monitor are present can be seen in our detailed test. Although there is no direct comparison with the previous model in this review, there are comparisons at various points throughout. The model was tested in PC mode on a Sparkle GeForce 8800GTS 512 (G92); video playback was realised using both a PC via DVI and a PS3 via HDMI cable. In addition, an IBM T42p Notebook with a FireGL/T2 graphics card and a DVI-I-to-D-Sub adapter were used for the aforementioned 8800GTS for the analogue D-Sub connection. In addition, a Gretag Macbeth EyeOne Display2 colorimeter was used together with the iColor Display 3.5.0.0 software for the measurements. The SMTT software was used for the input lag adjustment. The box provided by Samsung is east to transport, thanks to the integrated handle on the top. Inside the box, the pre-mounted 24-inch monitor is embedded securely between two Styrofoam shells. Enclosed in an additional padded bag, the actual model is protected against scratches on its high-gloss elements and matte panel by protective sheets. A stable transport securing solution is also provided.
Well-packed: The model is delivered with self-adhesive sheets on all high-gloss elements.
