Introduction

With the 24WMGX³, NEC is offering a multimedia device in a class of its own. Equipped with numerous connectors and a remote control, this is clearly not purely a computer screen, but is a display that can also be used for video material. This is also confirmed by the fact that a new AMVA panel (Advanced Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment) has been integrated into the model, which should display more powerful and natural colours and minimise streaking as well as paling of the colours when the screen is viewed from the side.

Thanks to its large number of connectors and modern panel, the model seems to be excellently equipped for these tasks. In the course of our test, the NEC 24WMGX³ will have to show how well it can be used as a multimedia device.

All results published in the test were obtained via the digital output of an ASUS 8600GTX. A Sony Playstation 3 was used to test the monitor’s video functions and for calibration, we used a Quato colorimeter as well as the iColor Display 3.0.5 software.

Scope of supply

The NEC 24WMGX³ comes in a compact box. The base is already mounted when the model arrives and is attached in such a way to save much space including the transport safety catch.

The scope of supply matches the large variety of connectors: for connection with the computer, a VGA cable (D-Sub), a DVI and a HDMI cable are provided. The internal power unit is provided with power via a power cable which is included and also offers a connector for external devices. A 3,5 mm jack audio cable is also included.
