Introduction

With the FlexScan S2242WH, Eizo is bringing a new, very interesting monitor to the market. At just 22 inches, the S2242WH offers as much screen space as a 24-inch model, with its 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. A high-quality S-PVA panel with a 10-bit LUT and an extended colour space (Wide Color Gamut) are used in the Eizo S2242WH. According to the manufacturer’s details, the model covers 92 percent of the NTSC colour space and 95 percent of the AdobeRGB colour space. A contrast of 1,200:1, 350 cd/m² brightness and a response time of six milliseconds via overdrive black-to-white represent other promising features of the monitor.

Via Auto-EcoView, the integrated light sensor adjusts the S2242WH automatically to the respective lighting conditions. Thus, up to 50 percent power can be saved. This makes the monitor very interesting for long-term usage in companies. HDCP support allows copy-protected content to be played back. The Eizo S2242WH is available in two colours. The GY at the end of the model description stands for the light grey model and BK stands for the black version.

We connected and tested the monitor using the digital DVI output of a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 via DVI cable. The calibration was carried out using the iColor software from Quato and a DTP94 colorimeter from X-Rite. The Sony BDP-S 350 Blu-ray player was used as an external player source for Blu-ray media, connected via a DVI-HDMI cable.

Scope of supply

The box in which the Eizo S2242WH is packed does not seem especially compact; two handles on the sides make transport by hand convenient, however, since at almost ten kilograms, the S2242WH is no lightweight. Simple black text indicates the most important data such as manufacturer’s name, model description and quality mark. The Eizo S2242WH is delivered as a unit, so the base is already mounted. Styrofoam pieces in all four corners make it impossible for the monitor to slip within its packaging. Through the lack of a glossy surface that is typical of Eizo, the matte surface of the monitor’s frame does not need any additional protecting sheets; as soon as the S2242WH is removed from its foam bag, it is ready for use.
